What's Trending for 2019
One thing I love about having been in the wedding Industry for over 30 years is seeing how weddings have evolved so much. The arrival of Pinterest has changed things so much and most brides love putting together their own boards. Things are far more personal and original than ever, which is just perfect. Whether you choose to be traditional keeping to classic elegant styles or to be totally individual it really doesn’t matter, it’s your choice, so go for it.
This year we have Pantone colour of the year being coral, but I’m finding the trend is for more muted, neutral tones such as soft beiges/nudes and latte tones with soft greys and muted blues being another favourite.
If you wanted to keep up-to-date & use some Coral, I think it would enhance any of these shades beautifully ….. close your eyes & visualise a softest grey bridesmaid dress with a bouquet full of natural loose hanging foliage and pops of coral David Austin roses and latté tones of a café au lait, dahlia & maybe a peony or two (ever a favourite & smell divine)
We are definitely seeing a big swing towards textures on the table, ditch the standard white cloth from the venue – add a floor length cloth (one of my bugbears, when cloths are short and you see all the table legs, top that with an un-ironed cloth and this wedding planner will soon change that) then overlay the long cloth with some soft muted tones of lace, linen, or sheer organza, soft lush & tactile.
Table centres are lower and fuller with a trend towards natural flowing greenery in large silver, copper or gold urn style bowls (golden rule keep arrangements out of guest’s eye line, either lower or higher)
The “WOW” Factor (apart from the bride)
Is definitely being seen in big ceiling installations, gorgeous flower arches & flower decorated copper hoops and we are even seeing a come back to the good old balloon, but this new trendy balloon styling has taken on a new lease of life & used to style an area or simply as a photo prop… think big… 3ft and many are personalised too.
Signage is ever popular, from acrylic laser cut, neon, blackboards and frames. Couples are still loving a quote!
Less is definitely more, trend is leaning more towards simple, classic with emphasis on great design and quality papers with a big introduction of vellum. Hand calligraphy, wax seals and handmade papers ooze quality but come at a price, but well worth it if that’s your style.
The Guest’s Experience
The Guest’s Experience is tending to be more important for couples, with the introduction of food stations, shared relaxed eating is far more popular. One of the biggest hits are mobile bars such espresso Martini station!
A Royal Influence
The wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry last year will certainly affect trends with simple understated dresses and natural hair & make up.
All in all a trend is a trend and you don’t have to follow it, it is your day and we are all unique so go with what makes you feel a million dollars and just have the best day… your way.
